There were some wild, experimental plots in the Oscar-nominated movies this year, and traditional plots as well. And each plot contained its own force of energy, its own unique way of compelling its story forward.

Plot is vital both to the structure and the dynamic of a film, and for writers, directors, actors—all departments of filmmaking—the understanding of plot is a key that unlocks creativity, makes it alive and fun.

And it’s much much more than “what happens” in a good story. Plot’s what brings your characters to life—and plot’s what grabs your audience and keeps them enthralled.

In this seminar we are going to explore the importance of plot to storytelling—for there is no story without a plot. And writers: I intend to share with you a secret I learned from working with George Lucas: that plot can actually create and generate ideas when you are figuring your story out.
