Masterclass - Directing with Bob Dolman

For directors, actors and screenwriters

This masterclass is held by Hollywood Screenwriter and Director Bob Dolman. Bob has won two Emmys for his screenplays. He has worked with actors like Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Susan Sarandon and Goldie Hawn and developed and written screenplays for George Lucas and Ron Howard. Has has also been a producer on several major Hollywood film. He is a beloved teacher and coach at our studio.

This masterclass will be an unique opportunity to work with Bob when he is in Stockholm in the fall. It will an intensive weekend for both directors, actors and screenwriters!

For Directors

As a director, you will learn how successful directors work with actors and how they develop their creative focus and vision.

For Screenwriters

As a screenwriter you will work with Bob to write, develop and stage your script. You will have the opportunity to discover new dimensions and opportunities in your script when you work with directors and actors.

For Actors

As an actor, in this masterclass you will learn the skills necessary to work with Hollywood directors and different directing styles.

Networking

This workshop is an opportunity for all directors, actors and screenwriters to network and create new contacts in the film industry. Many of the participants at previous masterclasses have gone on to develop projects together.

 

This weekend workshop was extremely creative and and productive and fun when I taught it last year at Cinemantrix. It’s a delight to say that it resulted in some short films, and I’m sure that will happen again.

The workshop will focus on the creative role of a director and the importance of understanding that role when working with a director.

We welcome actors who are willing to experience taking direction, and writers who are willing to provide their own written material to be directed and performed. And of course we invite directors, whether experienced or not, to work with writers and actors and to explore the importance of collaboration in television and filmmaking.

And can a writer or an actor also be a director? Absolutely. If you’ve written a scene and would like to direct it—great! If you’d like to direct a scene that you’re acting in—let’s do it!

As your teacher, I’ve had experience as a writer and a director in film and television, and so I’ll be guiding you as you create together. It will be a very practical—and fun—learning experience.

And to those who attended the workshop last year, we invite you to return with new ideas, new material and a willingness to participate with a new group of filmmakers. We will “learn by doing” and by creating in collaboration.

Please note: we will not be filming during the workshop, but we will experience the process of rehearsal and experimentation that goes into the making of a film. It’s exciting and fun to see a scene come to life: I guarantee you will learn a lot by observing and participating.
