About the seminar

Many creative people, including myself, have battled perfectionism in their creative process. In this evening seminar we will discuss perfectionism, and its sidekick procrastination, not only as obstacles but as tools that can be used to our advantage.

What I have learned from experience as a writer, producer and director in film and television is that "everything serves" when we find its positive purpose. This is a key idea in the Star Wars movies—how to use the Force—and in Willow, where a similar force is called Magic. And perfectionism, procrastination and other so-called forms of sabotage, all have a force and a magic within them, with both a dark side and a light side.

Let's tap into the light side, and look at what opportunities lie within us when we create. Perfectionism in a positive sense can help pave the way to excellence. Procrastination in a positive sense can aid us in slowing down, planning and thinking things through. We may be on the right track, with many more resources at hand, than we realize.

Let's shine an illuminating light, not on who we should be some day in the future, but who and what we are, at our very best, right now.
